To Study The Effect of Pterygium Excision on Corneal Curvature And Contrast Sensitivity
Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Dental and Medical Sciences (IOSR-JDMS) - Year 2018, Vol 17, Issue 9
Abstract
Introduction: There is a high incidence of Pterygium in our country. Pterygium effects corneal curvature as well as contrast sensitivity. Hence in this study 50 patients with pterygium were taken and the effect of pterygium excision on corneal curvature and contrast sensitivity were studied. Material andMethods: It was a prospective interventional study.50 patients who underwentpterygium excision were taken. Corneal curvature and contrast sensitivity were tabulated pre-operatively as well as after pterygiumexcision. The follow up duration was 1 month after pterygiumexcision. The astigmatism induced by primary pterygium was measured by automated keratometry and contrast sensitivity by Pelli Robson chart. Preoperative and postoperative values were compared using paired t –test and ANOVA test. Results:Astigmatism decreased significantly following pterygium excision. The mean preoperative k1 k2 decreased from 4.56 to 1.56postoperatively. The contrast sensitivity increased significantly following pterygium excision. The mean preoperative contrast sensitivity increased from 1.59±0.21 to 1.80±0.20 postoperatively. Surgical removal of pterygium caused a significant improvement in contrast sensitivity. Conclusion: Contrast sensitivity is significantly improved after pterygium excision. Induced astigmatism is reduced significantly after pterygium excision.

A Prospective Randomized Study of Effect of Magnesium Sulfate In Attenuating Artirial Blood Pressure In Elective Laparoscopic Abdominal Surgeries
INTRODUCTION: Magnesium is well known to inhibit catecholamine release and attenuate vasopressinstimulated vasoconstriction. We investigated whether i.v. magnesium sulphate attenuates the haemodynamic stress responses to...

A Study on Body Mass Index and Bone Mineral Density among Adult Males
Background:Body mass index (BMI) is defined as the body mass (weight) divided by the square of the body height, and is universally expressed in units of kg/m2 . Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test measures the density of min...
