Toward a full harmony between God, man and nature. The theological significance of the Beduruk wisdom tradition (Medang, West Kalimantan, Indonesia)

Abstract
This article represents a type of contextual theology that appreciates the importance of local cultures and traditions in creating a credible message about God, man and the world. The author presents the issue of universal harmony, which is based on three pillars: harmony between man and God, harmony between man and fellowmen, and harmony between man and nature. The author analyzes the beduruk wisdom tradition in Medang village (West Kalimantan, Indonesia) as the point of departure for his reflection. He believes that so far the beduruk tradition has contributed a lot to the values and wisdom that are needed to build such a universal harmony, also in managing and nurturing nature. Emphasis on the theme of harmony actually comes from the author’s own concern for the environment, especially in Indonesia. The above article concludes with the statement that whatever forms of human work in cultivating soils should always respect the Creator, human dignity, and nature.
