Trans-4-aminocrotonic acid (TACA), a potent agonist of GABA(A) and GABA(C) receptors, shows a proconvulsant action in the electroconvulsive threshold test in mice.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2005, Vol 57, Issue 1
Abstract
In the present study, we evaluated TACA (a potent agonist of GABA(A) and GABA(C) receptors) in the electroconvulsive threshold test in mice. Surprisingly, TACA (at 15 and 25 mg/kg) significantly decreased the threshold. The highest ineffective dose of TACA was estimated as 10 mg/kg. The obtained results indicate that the drug enhancing GABAergic transmission may possess proconvulsant properties in the electroconvulsive test. Such effect was completely opposite to our primary assumption and expectance.

Monocyte suppressing action of fenofibrate.
Since atherosclerosis has been proven to be an inflammatory disease, itis obvious that the proper treatment for dyslipidemia should not only correct lipid parameters but alsoinhibit inflammation. Monocytes and monocyte-d...
Prostacyclin among prostanoids.
Prostanoids are cyclic lipid mediators which arise from enzymic cyclooxygenation of linear polyunsaturated fatty acids, e.g. arachidonic acid (20:4 n 6, AA). Biologically active prostanoids deriving from AA include stabl...
Oxidative stress markers in affective disorders.
Affective disorders are a medical condition with a complex biological pattern of etiology, involving genetic and epigenetic factors, along with different environmental stressors. Increasing numbers of studies indicate th...

Effects of ebselen on glutathione level in neurons exposed to arachidonic acid and 4-hydroxynonenal during simulated ischemia in vitro.
Release of arachidonic acid (AA) is a neurotoxic mechanism of oxidative nature in trauma and ischemia. We studied ebselen effects on AA and 4-hydroxynonenal toxicity in rat cortical neurons in simulated ischemia in vitro...
