Trees: Natural Air Purifiers
Journal Title: The Indian Practitioner - Year 2016, Vol 69, Issue 2
Abstract
Commercial exploitation of forest has lead to systematic deforestation beginning in the colonial era and continuing to date. Increasing urbanisation with poorly planned development has also led to large-scale tree-felling in and near cities. Tree plantation programmes have been unable to keep up with the rate of tree loss. The cumulative effect of these is the reduction of tree cover. The problems of living in areas with low tree cover are many and the current discussion will be limited to effects on air quality with respect to respiratory health.
