Tribological Characterisation of PBT + Glass Bead Composites with the Help of Block-on-Ring Test
Journal Title: Tribology in Industry - Year 2013, Vol 35, Issue 2
Abstract
The materials involved in this research study were produced by die moulding in order to obtain bone samples type 1A (SR EN ISO 527‐ 2:2003). These composites have a matrix of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) commercial grade Crastin 6130NC010,DuPont. The values for the glass beads concentrations were established at 10 % and 20 %(wt). Block‐on‐ring tests were run in order to characterize the tribological behaviour of this friction couple (PBT and PBT composites with glass beads on steel). The block was manufactured by cutting parts from the bone samples, having the dimensions of 16.5 mm × 10 mm × 4 mm. The other triboelement was the external ring of the tapered rolling bearing KBS 30202, having dimensions of Ø35 mm × 10 mm and was made of steel grade DIN 100Cr6. There were analysed the following characteristics: friction coefficient (mean value over a test and scattering range), wear (wear rate). There are also presented particular aspects oftheworn surfaces, asinvestigated fromSEMimages.

The Wear behavior of UHMWPE against Surface Modified CP-Titanium by Thermal Oxidation
The effects of thermal oxidation duration on hardness, roughness, and wettability of the CP-titanium surfaces were investigated in this paper. The thermal oxidation treatment was done at 700 oC for 12-36 hours in an air...
Recycled Aluminium Cans/Eggshell Composites: Evaluation of Mechanical and Wear Resistance Properties
Aluminium based metal matrix composites have been produced from recycled aluminium cans and 150µm sized eggshell particles using a stir cast process. The mechanical properties of the control and aluminium can/eggshell co...
Shakedown Behavior in Multiple Normal Loading-Unloading of an Elastic-Plastic Spherical Stick Contact
The effect of strain hardening and hardening rule on shakedown behavior is studied in a multiple normal interaction process of an elastic plastic sphere against a rigid flat using finite element software ANSYS under full...
Investigation of Friction Coefficient of Various Polymers Used in Rapid Prototyping Technologies with Different Settings of 3D Printing
This paper deals with the research of friction coefficient in tribopairs made of the polymers that are the most commonly used in rapid prototyping technologies. Parts manufactured with the use of a 3D printer with differ...
Investigation on Tool Wear and Surface Characteristics in Hard Turning Under Air-Water Jet Spray Impingement Cooling Environment
Low cost machining puts tremendous pressure on the research in machining hardened steel compared to traditional grinding. As environmental regulations are strict enough on application of cutting fluids, a novel method ca...
