TRIBOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF VEGETABLE OILS INTENDED FOR THE BASES OF HYDRAULIC OILS

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2010, Vol 233, Issue 5

Abstract

The lubricating properties of vegetable oil bases in use for biodegradable hydraulic oils were tested and compared. Oil bases belonged to three different viscosity grades: VG 32, VG 46, and VG 68. The bases were formulated through the addition of viscosity improvers to rapeseed oil. The viscosity improvers were vegetable oils, products of a chemical modification of the vegetable oils, and synthetic esters. The antiwear and extreme-pressure properties of the formulated oil bases were investigated. The obtained results made it possible to analyse the influence of the type of viscosity improvers on preventing the lubricated tribosystem from sliding wear and scuffing.
