TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF CEMENTED CARBIDES IN ABRASIVE SOIL MASS
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2014, Vol 254, Issue 2
Abstract
The paper presents the results of wear intensity tests of B26 and G10 cemented carbides conducted under different soil conditions by the spinning bowl method. Wear intensity results were compared with the data for Hardox 500 steel. The following tribological properties of the analysed materials were determined: hardness, structure, and chemical composition. Three types of abrasive soil mass were used in the tests. Depending on the type of the analysed abrasive mass, the wear intensity of the tested carbides was 4-fold to 12-fold lower than that of Hardox steel. An analysis of the surface of spent carbides revealed that the wear process comprises two distinct phases and that wear intensity is correlated with the granulometric composition of soil abrasive mass.
