TRIBOLOGICAL PROPERTIES OF MOLYBDENUM LASER ALLOYED SURFACE LAYERS OF IRON ALLOYS OF VARYING CARBON CONTENT

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 262, Issue 4

Abstract

The influence of carbon content on the molybdenum laser alloying process was presented. Microstructure, surface roughness, microhardness, and wear resistance were analysed. As a result of laser molybdenizing of C45 and CT90 steels, a microstructure comprised of three areas (a remelted zone, a heat affected zone, and a substrate) was obtained. The wear resistance tests indicated that the tool steel after laser alloying with molybdenum was characterized by a lower intensity factor than constructional steel after laser alloying with molybdenum.
