Trichomonas vaginalis multiplication in a new light – binary fission, cytokinesis or else?
Journal Title: World Journal of Medical Images, Videos and Cases - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue
Abstract
Trichomoniasis is the 3rd most common sexually transmitted disease in the whole world. The most renowned resources in clinical parasitology describe Trichomonas vaginalis multiplication as binary fission along the longitudinal axis of the trophozoite, with two equally-sized cells arising in the process. We have closely followed this process under a light microscope in vitro and we would like to make a new recommendation to update the knowledge so far, which changes our understanding regarding this pathogen’s division, completely.
