Tukay and Azerbaijan

Abstract
The article deals with the great Tatar people poet, literary critic, publicist, public figure, translator and his relations with Azerbaijan. İt is noted that the Azerbaijani – Tatar social-political and literary – aesthetic thought had a significant impact on the formation of G. Tukay`s creation. This influence is caused first of all by the Azerbaijani and Tatar peoples` ethnic – national, philosophical-religious, language community and traditions. The great Azerbaijani poet – satirist Sabir`s significant role in Tukay`s satirical creation is emphasized on the basis of the concrete facts. Special attention is given to Tukay`s collaboration with the satirical periodical “Molla Nasraddin” that was of significant importance in struggle for democratic rights in the Turkic world. It is also emphasized that Tukay played an important role in the development of the Tatar – Azerbaijani literary relations that have very deep historical roots.
