TURKISH-SYRIA RELATIONS DURING ATATÜRK ERA

Abstract

Syria’s land in Otoman Empire’s borders was invated by France during World War One. Otoman Empire last the region with Mondros Peace Agreement at the end of the war. Based on Sykes-Picot Peace Agreement, the region covering Lübnan, Syria, Antakya and İskenderun was left to France. After the establishment of a state, Syria, wit the protection of France, questions on Turks in Syria, economical relations and relations with France came to front. After the freedom of Syria, problems on Hatay came out. In front of the United Nations, Syria argued that Hatay must stay in their borders while Turkey in the leadership of Atatürk arqued that Hatay must stay in Turkey. In this study, relations between Turkey and Syria mostly solving the problems on the borders, position of Turks in Syria, questions on Hayat including İskenderun and Antakya, economical relations and relations with France were investigated to abtain a condusion.
