UKRAINIAN UNIVERSITIES’ INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITY: BRAND-MANAGEMENT OR INTERNATIONALISATION?

Abstract

Ukrainian higher education constantly faces challenges and globalization transformations, among which the overall internationalisation is considered a key strategy, but with 20–25 years delay. The declared course on the internationalisation of higher education (IHE) in Ukraine is implemented in its own way by each University, since there is no unified guidance like the State Strategy of the IHE, and the Universities’ Program Plans of development do not raise the concept of nowadays internationalisation and traditional international activities. The article is based on the research of the ways of IHE implementation in 7 leading Ukrainian universities, which are leaders in Universities’ rankings and often win Calls for proposals under the European Commission programs. The main task of the survey was to analyze the prevailing reasons for the investigated Universities international activeness: IHE or the rating positions improvement.
