UNCONSCIOUSNESS FOLLOWING INTERSCALENE BLOCK: A CASE REPORT

Journal Title: Journal of Evidence Based Medicine and Healthcare - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue 9

Abstract

The interscalene brachial plexus block is widely used for a variety of procedures on the upper extremities. Successful blocks have been reported in 87% to 100% of cases but this block like many other peripheral nerve blocks is not hazard free. Subdural anaesthesia is very rare complication and may occur due to technical error, anatomical variations or both. However, the literature that has been published so far does not emphasize the type and severity of adverse outcomes that may accompany interscalene block. This case report will enable the nature, severity and the factors associated with these complications that may accompany ISB.
