Unusual Manifestations after a Case of Carotid Body Tumour Excision: A Case Report
Journal Title: Journal of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 1
Abstract
Carotid body tumours are rare tumours arising from chemoreceptor cells at the bifurcation of carotid artery. They are highly vascular and mostly benign but with potential to turn into malignancy. Even though tumours are nearly always non functional, catecholamine producing tumours do exist and can produce paroxysmal hypertension. As surgical removal is the commonest mode of treatment, anaesthetic management poses several challenges. Here we report a case of carotid body tumour excision with an eventful perioperative course.
