Urethral catheter knotting: An uncommon complication of a common procedure
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 2
Abstract
Intravesical knotting of urethral catheter is a rare but serious complication of urethral catheterisation. It can lead to complications of retained catheter, urethral trauma, infections and haematuria. We present the case of a 45 year old male patient suffering from urethral stricture who was catheterised for urinary retention which resulted in intravesical knotting. The patient was treated with endoscopic incision of his stricture along with a suprapubic cystostomy for removal of the knotted catheter.
