URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN PREGNANCY
Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 39
Abstract
BACKGROUND Urinary tract infection in pregnancy is one of the most common bacterial infections, which if not treated can cause serious harm to both mother and foetus. A woman is predisposed to urinary tract infection because of the close proximity to vagina and anus, in addition to low immunity during pregnancy. Timely intervention in the form of appropriate screening and treatment can reduce the morbidity. This review discusses the underlying pathophysiology of urinary tract infection in pregnancy and clinical guidelines regarding the use of different medications for prevention and treatment of urinary tract infection in pregnancy.
