Usefulness of 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring in diagnosis of arterial hypertension in children and adolescents after surgical repair of aortic coarctation
Journal Title: Polski Przegląd Kardiologiczny - Year 2007, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
Introduction: Arterial hypertension is a common clinical symptom of aortic coarctation which mayremain after surgerydespiteofgood resultof cardiosurgical correction. Aim of study: The aim of the study was an assessment of prevalence of arterial hypertension using standard blood pressure measurement and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM) in children after the successful surgical repair of aortic coarctation. Material and methods: 32 children after the successful surgical repair of aortic coarctation participated in this study. Control group consisted of 34 healthy children. In all of the children from the study group and control group standard blood pressure measurement and ABPM were performed. Results: Mean value of systolic blood pressure in standard mercury sphygmomanometer measurement and mean 24-hourvalue of systolic blood pressure in ABPM were significantly higher in children from study group than in control group respectively: 112.4± 12.9 mmHg vs 103.7± 10.6 mmHg; p
