User Localization by Spatial Context Processing
Journal Title: Romanian Journal of Human - Computer Interaction - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
This paper presents a case study and a proposed solution for a train localization system, designed to satisfy the safety requirements specific to the railway domain, and the limits imposed by the low cost regional railway platforms. Information and data flows are used to establish a global context for train localization through a software railway platform. The train localization is based on GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) low precision sensors and MEMS (Microelectromechanical Systems) inertial sensors integrated in commercial mobile devices, such as PC tablets and smart-phones. The integrity requirements of such a solution, on which the life safety is the main reason of localization, are stringent. In order to satisfy all the requirements put forward the current solution proposes to source out to the crowd the localization and other services traditionally offered by train personnel. The issues raised by storage, communication, processing and visualization of data throughout the processing flow are highlighted in the paper.

Visual representations of educational processes
As an editorial to this special issue, we pinpoint some ways on how visual representations of educational processes can help analyzing these processes, and in turn lead to designing of new tools informed by interdiscipli...
Ignoring Irrelevant Information on Displays
This paper presents empirical and modeling work aiming to contribute toward a coherent theory of how humans select relevant information and discharge irrelevant information presented on displays. Two empirical studies ar...
Using social networks among Romanian students – variable, advantages and limits
Social Networking Sites (SNSs) allow people to present themselves, join interest groups and establish or maintain connections with others. Most social networks are for teenagers and adults, although some have no lower ag...
Specific aspects regarding the usability of faculty admission websites
Faculty admission websites are used every year by thousands of people looking for some kind of information. In this paper we present an empirical evaluation of Babeş-Bolyai University faculty admission websites. The univ...
A need, no app: just do it! But do people support dynamic composition of interactive systems for fulfilling emergent needs?
In Human Computer Interaction engineering, both the context of use (<user, platform, environment>) and the user task (<goal, procedure>) are supposed to be set at design time. However, in ubiquitous computing, the contex...
