Using Etymologic Analysis in Religious Speech

Journal Title: Journal of the Human and Social Science Researches - Year 2016, Vol 5, Issue 6

Abstract

The famous mufassir Fakhruddin er-Razi (ö. 606/1210) says that the excellent method for finding out the meanings of the words is to analyze them etymologically, that is, to search origins of them. Because, only by this way, we can have the valid knowledge about the meanings of words. On the other hand, etymologic analysis is important to keep the meanings settled in mind, especially for the words which have terminological meanings. For example, to have an opinion about how relationships are existed between the vole and ‘munafik’, the dark night or sea’s covering and ‘kâfir’, the autumn’s rain which cleans all the pollutions and dusts and the Ramadan month, we must apply etymological analysis of these words. This study is about using etymologic analysis mentioned above in the religious speeches.
