Uterine rupture during hysteroscopic polypectomy

Journal Title: Ege Tıp Dergisi - Year 2015, Vol 54, Issue 1

Abstract

Hysteroscopy is an endoscopic procedure which allows viewing directly the inside of the uterine cavity, cervical canal and tubal ostiums, and it can be performed safely in the office setting. This procedure gives the opportunity to both diagnose and treat frequent intrauterine pathologies such as menorrhage, congenital abnormalities and synechiae at the same day without hospitalization. Although it is a safe procedure and can be considered as a simple intervention in routine clinical practice, some rare life threatening complications might also occur, such as an uterine rupture. In this report, an uterine rupture during hysteroscopic polypectomy in a 37 year-old patient is presented.
