Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 42
Abstract
Memtili Tewfik Ependi (1901-1937), who is among the literary figures with important works of the modern Uyghur literature, has left a lasting impression on the Uyghur national education history with his academician identity. Recently, we had the opportunity to access to the notebook of Mehmet Salih Artış, who is among the students of the poet. The poems in this notebook are composed of the songs that he taught to his students in the innovative schools opened with the support of the public in Atuş in 1930s. As it was not possible to publish the notebook within the boundaries of China due to its content, the notebook was kept as taught by the poet without undergoing any modifications. We had certain notes on the discipline of the poet in our study. Furthermore, the wording samples of the disciplines were reviewed and the duplicate was shared with the readers as the disciplines both reflect his world view, his teaching method, his studies on and struggle for awakening and informing the public, the Turkish intellectuals contributing to the studies and Turkish of Turkey and reflect the alphabet of 1930s when the New Uyghur was developed from Chagatai Uyghur and was newly shaped. Considering that the alphabet of New Uyghur underwent a change in 20th Century for a few times, the disciplines may enlighten those who wish to utilize the sources published until the Cultural Revolution in terms of reading. In brief, besides being a source for linguistic studies, the disciplines also have the quality for sociology.
