Valence et compléments verbaux en akwá, bantu C22 de la République du Congo

Journal Title: Cahiers Africains de Rhétorique - Year 2022, Vol 1, Issue 01

Abstract

Illustrated using a corpus of approximately two hundred sentences, the present study aims to describe, following the theoretical model of dependency syntax initiated by L. Tesnière, valence and verbal complements, that is that is, the links likely to exist between the verb (core) and its various actants (subject and object complements) in Akwá, a Bantu language used in the north of the Republic of Congo. From this study, it appears that unlike some languages including French, Akwá does not have absolutely avalent (impersonal) verbs and these are mostly monovalent.
