Variations In The Origin Of CircumflexFemoral Arteries From ProfundaFemoris Artery - A Case Study
Journal Title: Stanley Medical Journal - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
CONTEXT : The Profunda femoris artery (PFA) is very important branch of Femoral artery supplying the thigh. Variations in the origin of its main branches are important for the Vascular Surgeons and Radiologists. AIM : To measure the distance between the origin of Lateral circumflex femoral artery (LCA ) from the origin of Profunda femoris artery. To measure the distance between the origin of Medial circumflex femoral artery (MCA ) from the origin of Profunda femoris artery. MATERIALS AND METHODS : The present study was conducted in fifty embalmed cadavers in Department of Anatomy, Government Stanley Medical College. The distance between the origin of LCA and MCA from the origin of PFA were measured using Vernier calipers. RESULT: The distances of both were found to be within 60 mm on both sides. The anatomical data obtained here is of importance for Vascular Surgeons and Radiologists for procedures conferred on PFA and vascular reconstructive surgeries involving the groin.
