Vibration analysis of temporomandibular joints – BioJVA device description and its clinical application in dental diagnostics – review of literature

Journal Title: Journal of Stomatology (Czasopismo Stomatologiczne) - Year 2012, Vol 65, Issue 2

Abstract

The BioJVA (BioResearch) device analyses vibrations arising in temporomandibular joint during jaw movement. By using the piezoelectric phenomenon, the vibratory energy is recorded in the form of a wave, and the coupling of the device with the computer enables a characteristic pattern of the record to be determined. The obtained findings immediately displayed in legible way on the monitor screen inform both the physician and the patient about existing abnormalities. The possibility to archive records on the computer’s hard disc is crucial for collecting patient’s medical history records. This study aims at describing the BioJVA device and a clinical management during diagnostic procedures. Basing on review of literature reports, it can be concluded that vibratory analysis of temporomandibular joints (JVA) is a simple and non-invasive diagnostic method, complementary to basic clinical examination.
