Virtual transportation speed and its calculation

Abstract
The paper proposes a new method of calculating the index of the transport sector, a virtual transportation speed. The calculations are based on the values of turnover, the number of cargo tons (passengers) transported and the duration of the analysis period. Computations for the working formula are presented; explanations on the nature and meaning of both the index and its components are given. The advantages and the shortcomings of innovation are disclosed. The example of calculations using official statistics in Ukraine for the period 2012-2014 years for all the major modes of transport is given. The calculation results for the final values both virtual speed and dynamics of its changes during the analyzed period are tabulated.
