Warrior Archtype in The Ömer Seyfettin’s Stories

Abstract

The word archetype, which is an ancient Greek word, means the first image, like the first example in Turkish. Archetypes are a common heritage of humanity. The inclusion of archetypes in art works contributes to the achievement of the artist and the work at universal level. Archetypal which form the common stake of people from different cultures and nations is a common language for artists and their counterparts. Common symbols and figures, defined as archetypes, revive in their artworks through collective unconsciousness. Archetypes can be determined by literary scientists through archetypal critique method in literary works from the information obtained from different disciplines such as mythology, psychology, anthropology, history of religions. This method has emerged as a result of unveiling of the concept of collective unconsciousness by Carl G. Jung, who was the one of the representatives of the modern psychology through the 21th century. The method of archetypal criticism used in the analysis of literary texts is to analyze the work with movement from the work. This shows that it is successful in reflecting the aesthetic value of the literary works examined through the method of archetypal criticism. One of these character archetypes is the warrior archetype. Warrior archtype is emotional and physical form of masculine energy. Warrior archtype represents itineracy, savior, revolutionism. The warrior is a good strategist and tactical master, and knows that life is short. Also, Warrior archtype plays important role in the culturel achievements. This archetype, both myths and modern period works can be determined. In this work, warrior archetype of Ömer Seyfettin’s Stories is discussed.
