WEAR OF PTFE SEALS IN THE BALL VALVES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2012, Vol 245, Issue 5

Abstract

The article presents the research results of leakage from ball valves. Leakage was measured for a new valve and after an assumed number of open/close cycles using the helium detection method. The roughness of a valve ball and cooperating sealing rings were measured after and before cycle tests. It was found that the leakage value increases with the increase of number of cycles. The research includes the analysis of chosen roughness parameters and their influence on leakage. It shows that the particles collected on the seals determined the roughness of ball. The proposed method of the investigation allowed the author to find that the wear process that caused the leakage increase from ball valve.
