PROBLEMS OF THE SURFACE LAYER TECHNOLOGICAL FORMING IN THE ASPECT OF THE SCUFFING PERFORMANCE. PART II: THE TOPOLOGICAL APPROACH
Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2015, Vol 264, Issue 6
Abstract
The proposition of the topological approach to the technological creation of the surface layer’s scuffing performance is presented in this article. It was recognized, based on the cycle of experiments, that the scuffing performance depends on the interaction between rheological, physicalchemical, and morphological properties of the surface layer. Some morphological scuffing invariants (parameters developing to the similar lever at the time of the process initiation) were experimentally discovered. Motifs, their characteristics, and the Vvv (void volume of valleys) parameter were selected as optimal, morphological invariants. The surface polarity was considered as the key physical-chemical surface’s property. In the case of the rheological surface’s feature, residual stresses were stated as the best representative. Taking into considerations the possibility of all these parameters being created, it was proposed the concept of “pVt” limits (pressure x velocity x time) as the characteristic allowing the prediction or event control of the timing of the scuffing initiation.
