Weχssere und so weiter: vom zögerlichen Auftauchen einer lykischen Dynastie
Journal Title: Philia: International Journal of Ancient Mediterranean Studies - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue
Abstract
Beside the long-known dynasts Weχssere I and II on coins and Waχssepddimi on the Inscribed Pillar in Xanthos, there were more dynasts with similar names on coins, but long unrecognised due to wrong readings. These are an early Waχssebllimi, a later Waχssepddimi II also associated with Tlos and a later Uχssepddimi minting at Patara. Linked with the later dynasts, especially with Waχssepddimi II, is Ddẽñtimi. These seven dynasts are evidently members of a single dynasty in the Xanthos valley, at first suppressed by the Harpagids, but appearing again a generation later. They all have genuine Lycian names.
