Abstract
Sobiesław Szybkowski A GREAT NEED FOR THE DOCUMENT. LETTER FROM THE GOVERNOR OF DOBRZYŃ JANUSZ FROM KOŚCIELEC TO THE COMMANDER OF GOLUB REGARDING THE DOCUMENT, WHICH CONCERNS THE VILLAGE GRABOWO IN DOBRZYN LAND In this contribution was published a letter without a year date from the governor of Dobrzyń to the commander of Golub Jan von Maden. Guided by the time of wielding post of governor by Janusz and specific dates for his involvement in diplomatic activity in the direction of the Prusy, it was found that the letter was probably issued April 10 in 1420. This source refers to the period of management of Dobrzyń land by the Teutonic Knights in the years 1391–1405. Then the mayor of Dobrzyń from Teutonic Knights (1401–1405) Gottfried von Hatzfeld acquired from an unknown owner Grabowo (now Grabiny) in the district of Lipno, and document, which certified this acquired was sent to the archives of the great masters in Malbork and has not been returned after the purchase the land of Dobrzyń in 1405. During the governor term of Janusz, it came to the disputes relating to Grabowo and governor from Dobrzyń has began efforts to return this privilege, aimed on its basis to determined the limits of the royal land. This case demonstrates an interesting episode of the Polish-Teutonic cross-border relations during the reign of Władysław Jagiełło, and also touches a general process. It comes about constant broadening the confidence to the written word and spreading the literacy in late medieval Poland.
