Abstract
Military units are located in different parts of Poland, on the territory of specific communities. Their location has a different implication on the local development, especially on its economic, social, environmental and infrastructural spheres. The restruc¬turing of the Polish Armed Forces, as a consequence of political, economic and international changes, caused disbanding of many military units. Disbanding military units on municipality (commune) territory causes different consequences in social and economic sphere. The article presents results of research from municipalities (communes) where military units are stationed. The main purpose of this research was to define connections between military units and local society and evaluate the fact of military units' liquidation by municipalities and ways in which local authorities use the territory after a disbanding a military base.
