Abstract

The Republic of Poland is one of the most important military participants of peace missions under the auspices of the United Nations. What is more, Poland belongs to the structures and organizations of the western world - the European Union, NATO, Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The participation in international organizations, in free economic market, free flow of people, thoughts, ideas foster social and political transformations. Consequently, the transformation process must also occur in the Polish Armed Forces, what is natural and logical in relation to changes that take place in the whole country. At present the Polish Armed Forces are undergoing a process of modernising their armament, equipment, structures and also principles of acquiring soldiers. The changes taking place in the country and in the world made the decision makers take the decision of the professionalisation of the armed forces, what enforces activities in such areas as law, sociology, military sciences and economics. Wide and complex reforms in the Armed Forces may bring about a positive result only when the soldiers' mentality will be changed and there will be funds to cover a complex training and technical modernization of the army.
