Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 13
Abstract
The article is dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Rafind Fuatovich Sharifullin, one of the leading archaeologists of Tatarstan, a renowned specialist in the history of construction and architecture of the Volga Bulgaria urban centres. While working at the Bilyar hill fort site in the 1970s – first half of the 1980s, he investigated the ruins of Cathedral mosque, public baths and remains of wells. Since 1988, for almost two decades Rafind Fuatovich had headed the Bolgar archaeological expedition and his contribution to the research of the Bolgar hill fort site is of considerable importance. Among the objects studied in the course of R.F. Sharifullin’s excavations, the "White House", the "East House" and the "House with towers" (the three monumental 13-14th-century constructions) are notable. The scientist's contribution to the study of historically known Kul Sharif Mosque's remains, the Kazan Kremlin's fortifications, and the Suvar hill fort should be noted. R.F. Sharifullin is the author of more than 60 scientific publications; he is one of compilers and editors of the multivolume collective work "The city of Bolgar".
