Wybrane formy skalne doliny Bystrzycy w Młotach – morfologia i współczesne procesy

Journal Title: Przyroda Sudetów - Year 2018, Vol 21, Issue

Abstract

Selected rock forms of the Bystrzyca valley in Młoty – morphology and contemporary processes The paper presents the results of a study of a selected group of rock forms located on the forested slopes of the Bystrzyca valley in Młoty village (Bystrzyckie Mts, Central Sudetes). The study involved field work combined with morphometric analysis of the slopes. The paper provides a general morphological description of the existing rock forms, developed in the Precambrian paragneiss bedrock. Five elongated rock walls and steps can be distinguished among them. The rock walls are mostly 5-10 m high, however in places they reach 15-20 m. Their microrelief includes numerous niches and overhangs, up to 2 m deep. The rock forms also provide examples of contemporary processes of rock surface degradation – the effects of physical, partly biomechanical, weathering. In this context, special attention was paid to the rockfall of February 2017. It resulted in a gravitational downslope transport of a block (length: 2.4 m, width: 1.3 m, height: 1.2 m) over the distance of 49 metres from the rock face.
