Yüksek Frekanslı Elektromanyetik Radyasyon ve Bitki Gelişimi /High Frequency Electromagnetic Radiation and Plant Development
Journal Title: Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Üniversitesi Fen ve Mühendislik Bilimleri Dergisi / Recep Tayyip Erdogan University Journal of Science and Engineering - Year 2020, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
Most devices, which have been developed along with technological advancements that improve our quality of life, work wireless with electromagnetic (EM) waves, and their number has been continuously increasing. The EM waves bring about pollution as a type of radiation in our environment. The long-term effects of this electromagnetic pollution on human life are currently not entirely known. On the other hand, scientists have shown interest in the effects of EM pollution on plant development and metabolism since plants represent our food supply and play essential roles in our environment. The scientific studies indicated that high-frequency electromagnetic radiation affects plant development by changing their biochemical pathways and gene expression. Serious changes in plant development, biochemical, and cellular mechanisms due to oxidative stress have been observed. These results indicate that high-frequency electromagnetic radiation is a source of stress for plants. However, the changes and effects on plant development vary and have not been understood very well; therefore, new studies are of great importance to uncover and shed light on these mechanisms. In this review, the effects of high-frequency electromagnetic radiation on plant development are discussed.
