Abstract
The paper is devoted to nuns described in the Vision of Piers Plowman by William Langland represented by the Prioress Johanne, Dame Peronelle and Dame Clarice, and in the Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, namely, Madame Eglentyne, a Prioress. The descriptions of nuns are analysed in the context of the rule applied in nunneries in the 14thcentury as well as the literature on the life of nuns in England in the 14thcentury. The purpose of the paper is to answer the question to what extent the characters of the four nuns reflect the 14th century reality
