Abstract
ANNA STRYCZEK-JANICKA / The palace and park complex in Kopice against the background of the 19th century idea of corresponding arts The palace and park complex in Kopice, founded in the second half of the 19th century, is one of the most outstanding examples of the 19th century residential complexes in Silesian historicism. Its creators: Count Hans Ulrich von Schaffgotsch, Carl Lüdecke and Carl Heidenreich, were guided by a conscious historical attitude, and created a unique example of the 19th century Gesamtkunstwerk, perfectly fitting into the era in which it was built, its ideological dilemmas and the search for its own stylish aspect. This is where different historical styles meet, as do different fields of corresponding arts – as if summing up and glorifying the past. The state of unacceptable devastation in which the palace, and the park around it, is right now, slowly deteriorates the former glory of this mansion, which can be considered as a symbol of the identity of Silesian aristocracy, in the history of which the Polish and German themes intertwine, the coexistence of which Count Hans Ulrich von Schaffgotsch was so aware of – him being the owner of the land in Kopice since 1859 and an initiator of the reconstruction of the palace in 1863–1873.
