After the death of the Casimir IV The Great, the castle and the city were in the hands of Vladislaus II, duke of Opole (1356-1401) and became the centre of Wieluń Principality (1370–1392). In the further centuries it had been a royal residency and seat of royal governors. The castle had burnt in 1791 and shortly after that was demolished. In 19th on its place a classicistic palace was built. Article summarized knowl- edge about castle. Authors are trying to recreate the plan of, now non-existent, stronghold.
