Abstract
The article considers different points of view of home and foreign researchers on the development of cognitive activity of junior class schoolchildren within the framework of foreign language teaching process. The concepts «attention», «cognition», «knowledge» and their basic types, also the stages of intellectual development of children are also analyzed. The authors discusses the ways of formation and improvement of necessary skills for perfecting language abilities of pupils in the primary school.
