Abstract
Speaking of myocardial infarction, we usually mean the dysfunction of the left ventricle (LV). Isolated ischaemia of the right ventricle is rare, but should be suspected in any case of the infarction of the lower wall or the lower lateral segment. The classic triad of symptoms are: hypotonia and an excessive filling of the jugular veins in the absence of the features of pulmonary circulation stasis. Ischaemia of this part of the heart is most often caused by the occlusion of the right coronary artery, and, depending on the area of ischaemia, may be the cause of serious haemodynamic disturbances. Patients with MI of the lower wall and the coexisting RVMI have an increased risk of in-hospital complications, including the occurrence of shock and death. The early diagnosis of myocardial infarction and differentiation with left ventricular dysfunction is extremely important due to completely different treatment. The causal treatment − early reperfusion − is a common procedure for the dysfunction of the left and right part of the heart.
