Journal Title: Studia Polsko-Ukraińskie - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to establish the time of birth of the popular chronicle The Story of Ruthenians. The author tries to determine the approximate date of its emergence and its authorship. Historical sources justify the claim that the chronicle was written at the end of the 18th century or the beginning of the 19th century. The article presents also many versions of the Istoriya Russov and their impact on the Ukrainian literature before its first publication in Moscow in 1846.
