Abstract
The studies were aimed at assessing the relationships and changes in the developmental potential of Lublin, i.e. in the level of development, fulfilled functions, the city`s capital and its economic situation. They created prerequisites for concluding about Lublin`s position among the largest cities in Poland and its possible effects upon developmental processes in the region of Lublin. The study results demonstrated that changes in Lublin`s economy head towards modernizing it, which improves its position in the group of Poland`s largest cities and strengthens its influence upon developmental processes in the region. These changes are of durable nature, because they are based on innovations and development of research-developmental activities, focused on practical effects.
