Abstract

Marcelina Darowska was born on January 28, 1827 to Szulaki in Ukraine. On October 2, 1849 she married Karol Darowski. He died of typhus tree years later, leaving her with two children – Józef and Anna Karolina. A year after that, her son died. In Rome she met her spiritual directors: Father Hieronim Kajsiewicz and Father Aleksander Jełowicki. They introduced Her to Józefa Karska and decided to found a religious community dedicated to the education and support of women – the Congregation of the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She died on 5 January 1911 in Jazłowiec. Marcelina Darowska was beatifi ed by the then Pope John Paul ii in Rome in the year 1996.
