Abstract
The article presents the sources and functions of the state in the thought of Friedrich Nietzsche. Nietzsche claims that modern society is overfilled by a multitude of slavish tendencies, which stand in total opposition to the existential unity of the “free spirits”, whose way of life was extinguished at the same time as the slaves started to establish rules. Only the Overman, as Nietzsche says, can overcome the slavish nature of the state and bring an authentic joy to the human existence.
