The conservation of bibliographic heritage from the school libraries

Abstract

The objective of this article is to systematize the theoretical foundations related to the role of the school library as custody of the documentary heritage of the nation, treasured in its funds and responsible for its conservation from preventive and restorative attention to the main causes of the deterioration of sources documentaries, revealing the need to conceive work in these institutions from an environmental perspective. Methods of the theoretical level of knowledge were used, such as the analytic-synthetic, inductive-deductive, historical-logical and systemic approach, to systematize information from documentary sources and the experience of the authors as protagonists and coordinators of the process in the Municipality of Santa Cruz of the South, Cuba. The relationship between the patrimonial conception and the typification of the causes that affect the documentary sources in the context of the school library, reveals the category education for conservation, as a central element in the preparation of librarians to improve their performance in the preservation of these documentary sources.
