A 18th CENTURY POET, NEDRET AND HIS DIVANCHE

Abstract

The date of birth and death of the poet, who uses pseudo-name of Nedret in his poems, and of whom there is very limited information about, is unknown. Today, there is a small divan of the poet who is not included in literary history and who presumably lived in Istanbul until the first quarter of 19th century and worked as a clerk in the shipyard. There are 4 poetic prayers, 1 munacat, 2 historicals, 1 tahmis, 1 terkib-i bent, 1 Bahariyye, 58 ghazals, and 4 singular pieces in this work. The influence of Nedim can be seen in his ghazals where he usually places on affectionate topics and uses a sincere language of speech. In this study, information about Nedret's life and his work has been given, and the poems in Divanche have been transcribed into today's letters.
