Abstract
This study attempts to compare the leadership styles of the executive directors of officials systems in Shiraz. The study is a descriptive one considered as a survey research and is categorized under applied research. The population consists of directors and deputies of some official systems in Shiraz which 90 directors and deputies were selected randomly as the sample of the study. For collecting data, Luthans standard leadership style questionnaire consisting of 35 questions was used based on two criteria of leadership and participation styles in the Likert scale. The reliability and validity of this scale were tested several times by Luthans (1987-1990) and in another time by Luthans et al. (1993) and the Cornbrash alpha was found to be .76. The collected data were tested through SPSS 17 software using independent t-test and variance analysis. Also ethnographic features were examined only in terms of the relations between age and different styles. The results showed that in respondents’ view, there existed significant differences between participatory and authoritative leadership styles of executive directors of officials systems in Shiraz. It can be reported that the directors with the higher age better understand the importance of cooperation and communication with the employees, thus they tended more toward participatory leadership style.
