A Comparative Study on The Vocabulary Items of The Books of Children’s Literature

Abstract
It is known that children’s books are important contributions to the awareness of mother tongue beauty and development of their vocabulary. For this reason, children’s books should not be prepared at random in terms of language features. The utilization rate of the vocabulary items such as idioms, reduplications and proverbs that reflect the socio-cultural structure of the society and reveal the subtleties of language should be determined at each age level. The purpose of this study is to compare the vocabulary of works in the field of children’s literature. This study was designed according to the descriptive survey model of qualitative data analysis. The results of the study were obtained by the document review technique and analyzed by content analysis. According to the text types, the total and different reduplications, idioms, proverb in children’s books; a hundred reduplications, idioms, proverbs most frequently used in children’s books were examined. The results of this research are: The least reduplications are used in children’s epics; the most reduplications are used in children’s poems. In all types of children’s books “bir bir, yavaş yavaş, kendi kendine, uzun uzun, el ele, sık sık, pırıl pırıl, ağır ağır, gece gündüz, yan yana, bol bol, çoluk çocuk” are common in the most frequently used 100 reduplications. The least idioms are used in children’s novels, the most idioms are used in children’s theatre texts. “Yola çıkmak, söz vermek, can vermek” are common in the 100 most frequently used idioms in children’s books.
