A cross-temporal meta-analysis on test results of SCL-90 in Chinese military personnel
Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 5
Abstract
Objective To explore the changes of mental health of Chinese military personnel over time and its relation with social changes. Methods A total of 390 original studies (n = 310 436) reported Chinese military personnels Symptom Checklist 90 scores from 1990 to 2020. The data were collected for the cross-temporal meta-analysis. Correlation analysis and regression analysis were mainly conducted. Results The results showed that Chinese military personnels mental health status had been getting better since 1990. There were significant negative correlations between mental health scores and social indicators ( gross domestic product, defence expenditure, preferential treatment expenditure of military personnels family), and the social indicators could predict the changes in the mental health of military personnel effectively. Conclusion The improvement trend of Chinese military personnels mental health status may be related to the social changes. To some extent, it indicates that Chinese national defense and military reform are heading in the right direction.
