Effects of soldier's psychological stress on military morale: the mediating effect of fatigue

Journal Title: Journal of Air Force Medical University - Year 2023, Vol 44, Issue 10

Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship among soldiers' psychological stress, fatigue and military morale. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted among 700 soldiers in training from June to September 2021 by using the general situation questionnaire, soldiers' psychological stress self-rating questionnaire, fatigue scale and military morale scale, and the data were analyzed by using structural equation model. Results A total of 666 valid questionnaires were collected. The results showed that military morale was negatively correlated with soldiers' psychological stress and fatigue (both P < 0. 01). Soldiers' psychological stress had a direct and significant effect on military morale (P < 0. 05), and had an indirect effect on information literacy through the mediating effect of fatigue (P < 0. 01). Conclusion Some soldiers in training have psychological stress problems, which will lead to their fatigue and affect the military morale. The chief officer of the army should pay full attention to the psychological condition of soldiers during training, especially psychological stress and fatigue, and actively intervene to improve the overall morale of the army.
